Game Industry Competence Map has been published

The Gamebadges project, in which Neogames Finland participates as a partner, has created and launched a Competence Map to provide a framework of titles and competences for game development-related professions. The competences required in different roles are divided to different expertise levels – bronze level competence goals highlight the competences of juniors and graduating game students, silver level covers most of the independent professional level, and gold level is reserved for the gurus of the industry.

The aim of the Competence Map is to support everyone in the game industry from juniors to seniors, and not to forget the career changers. Map is a free online tool for anyone to use and it serves as an introduction to different game industry roles, and what kind of competences are needed – and how to get to the next expertise level.

The Gamebadges project is also creating an Open Badge ecosystem, where people can apply badges and have their skills recognised within a standardised framework. The first tests of this ecosystem have started, and will continue throughout the year. For the autumn, Gamebadges hopes to have even more testers – if you are interested, fill in this survey.

The idea is that the Competence Map and Open Badges together support the matchmaking between talents and game studios by making skills easier to recognise with each badge serving as verified proof of skills.

Gamebadges unites nine project partners and over 20 associated partners from nine countries. The project is co-funded by the European Union. Launching this Competence Map for the European game industry would not have been possible without this funding.
